Djokovic Reveals Long-Term Health Issue Led to Cincinnati Exit, Hints at Last Appearance
Novak Djokovic has admitted that a persistent health issue, which has troubled him for several years, was the primary reason for his withdrawal from the Cincinnati tournament. He explained that the problem is particularly aggravated by high humidity and heat, making the already challenging conditions of the match even more difficult.
Speaking to Serbian media outlet Sportklub after the match, Djokovic expressed his dissatisfaction with his performance. "It wasn't a pleasant match for me at all," he stated. "This is not the first time this has happened, and I suspect it won't be the last, but that's how it is."
Despite temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius with 80 percent humidity, Djokovic clarified that the weather itself was not the sole cause of his struggles. "No, it's simply a health problem I have," he elaborated. "It has been bothering me for the past several years. I experience many issues, especially in conditions with high humidity and heat."
He further explained that the pressure of competition, combined with the physical discomfort, worsened his condition. "Yes, I anticipated being at a disadvantage," he admitted. "However, there were also other factors, like nerves and everything that accompanies a match. All of this exacerbates the situation, which is precisely what occurred."
The 39-year-old, a three-time winner of the Cincinnati event and arriving on a 10-match winning streak at the tournament, indicated that this might be his last appearance. "I certainly hope I will return," he said, "but unfortunately, at this moment, it seems more probable that I won't. Still, we will have to wait and see what the future holds."
