Following Doug Armstrong's decision to step down from the role, Hockey Canada is in the process of identifying a new General Manager for its national teams. A debriefing session was recently held with the current management group, which included prominent hockey executives such as Don Sweeney, Julian Brisebois, Kyle Dubas, Jim Neal, and Ryan Getzlaf.

The organization's aim is to appoint a single GM who will oversee preparations for both the 2028 World Cup and the 2030 Winter Olympics. Given the prestige associated with this position, previously held by figures like Wayne Gretzky and Steve Yzerman, significant interest from top candidates across the hockey world is anticipated.

Five Restricted Free Agents Potentially on the Trade Block This Offseason

As the NHL offseason approaches, several Restricted Free Agents (RFAs) are being discussed as potential trade candidates, offering teams opportunities to retool their rosters or address specific needs:

• Jason Robertson (Dallas Stars): While the Stars would ideally prefer to keep their prolific goal-scorer, navigating his contract and salary cap implications could lead to complications. High-profile teams, including the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, as well as other major markets, might explore avenues to acquire him.
• Braden Schneider (New York Rangers): With a crowded depth chart among right-shot defensemen and inconsistent overall performance this past season, Schneider could become a part of the Rangers' offseason restructuring plans.
• Cole Perfetti (Winnipeg Jets): Despite his young age (24), Perfetti has experienced an up-and-down season. Although there was trade interest at the deadline, the Jets might consider moving him if it facilitates acquiring a much-needed second-line center or a top-four defenseman.
