Chris Pronger's Interest in NHL Management Roles
Sportsnet journalist Elliotte Friedman, during his appearance on the Sirius XM NHL Network Radio's "Morning Skate" show with Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin, commented on rumors regarding legendary defenseman Chris Pronger's potential interest in an open management position within the NHL.
Gord Stellick noted that Chris Pronger's name frequently surfaces in connection with various vacancies, including a role with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although Pronger himself had previously stated that Toronto had not contacted him, he left the door open for potential offers, emphasizing that it would need to be "the right situation." Stellick also raised the question of how serious the interest in Pronger might be, given that fans often get drawn to "sexy" names, citing examples like Luc Robitaille or Jeff Jackson.
In response, Friedman playfully remarked that he had always considered Pronger an incredibly talented and principled player whom he would pick for his team a hundred times out of a hundred, but "never thought of him as 'sexy' until now" (laughs). After a brief, lighthearted exchange, Friedman moved on to the core subject.
He revealed that, according to his information, Pronger had already engaged in discussions with the Nashville Predators regarding their vacant position, though Friedman clarified that it was more of an "informal meeting" or "introduction" rather than a full interview. While Pronger likely isn't among the finalists, the fact that they spoke is confirmed. Friedman also mentioned the approach of Keith Pelley, Toronto's new head of operations, known for his willingness to take meetings and listen to anyone interested in discussing potential collaborations. The journalist expressed confidence that Pronger is indeed interested in such a role and wouldn't be surprised if Pelley showed interest in "understanding what this guy is about," especially given the intriguing offseason of potential change ahead for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
