These to consider as you embark on your digital journey
To the digitally naïve or newcomers in the online space there are a lot of things that need to be considered before taking your business online. Without a doubt online is a great place to be, the advantages are many and it is where the economy of the world is moving; slowly but inexorably. But it is not just a case of making a website on Wix or WordPress and hoping for the best, there are a lot of things that need to be considered. Here are some things you will need to consider as you set out on your digital journey.
Insurance is important
If you have any sort of presence online beyond a simple brochure site, then you probably need to safeguard yourself against hijacking and fraud. The solutions here are broad and varied but you will need to look at a range of solution that includes firewalls and servers and you might potentially even want to look at taking out a cyber insurance policy to guard you against nefarious activities from the dark web. In fact, often the bad things that happen on the internet are not even the acts of intentional trouble makers, they are the result of things like power surges destroying servers or other similarly innocent acts.
Partner with the right people
If the goal of your site is to drive traffic and generate business, then you need to make sure that your page is discoverable. It is pointless having the best site in the world if nobody knows that it is there. To this end, you need to learn about search engine optimization and you need to find a partner who can help you to implement a proper SEO strategy. It might sound like gobbledegook, but SEO is a very important element of any digital strategy and you need to make sure that you are not left behind by your competitors.
Play to the strengths of the net
One of the best things about operating in the digital space is that almost every action can be measured. You can track users, you can see what pages they like, you can see how they are getting to your site and where they are going when they leave. You can tell where they are geographically and how many pages they view per minute. As a result of all this data, it is easy to track what is working and what is not and what sort of return you are getting on your spend. You must be attuned to this and monitor it closely because if you don’t you are operating on luck and you are probably throwing your money away.
It is never done
One of the biggest differences between a digital platform and a more traditional offering is the fact that digital technology is always a work in progress. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that your website or your offering or your strategy is ever complete – because it is not, and it never will be. With digital, you are always on a deadline and always working to improve and amend the status quo. Don’t be left behind by thinking that everything that you need to do has been done!
