According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, there’s no cause for concern regarding Evgeni Malkin’s contract situation with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Speaking on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, Friedman expressed confidence that a deal will be reached.
Friedman noted that Penguins General Manager Kyle Dubas’s comments suggest a mutual desire to keep Malkin in Pittsburgh. He highlighted Dubas’s statement that Malkin is not hindering the development of younger players as a significant indicator that an agreement is likely. Friedman also mentioned that discussions might involve Malkin’s role and potential load management, given his injury and suspension history this past season, as well as his successful transition to wing.
The insider believes that despite the complexities, the situation does not appear to be a crisis, and a deal is expected to be finalized.
