Wimbledon Prize Fund Rises Significantly for 2025

Carlos Alcaraz stands to earn a record £3 million in prize money if he secures a hat-trick of Wimbledon titles next month.

The 22-year-old Spaniard is currently taking a break and celebrating in Ibiza after his demanding five-set, five-and-a-half-hour victory over Jannik Sinner in the recent French Open final.

In that memorable Roland Garros match, Alcaraz staged a comeback from being two sets down to defeat Sinner in a classic encounter.

The reigning Wimbledon champion is currently the joint 6-4 favourite for the title, sharing this status with the Italian world number one according to bookmakers.

Should Alcaraz achieve his third consecutive win at the tournament, his prize money would see a £300,000 increase compared to the £2.7 million he received for lifting the men`s singles trophy 11 months ago.

Wimbledon, mirroring the policy of the other three Grand Slams, awards equal prize money to both male and female players.

This means that Barbora Krejčíková, the current women`s singles champion, would receive the same amount if she successfully defends her title.

The runners-up in the singles events will earn £1.52 million. This considerable sum highlights how valuable every point can be in a close match, where the difference between winning and losing, potentially decided by a final-set tie-break or just a few games, is worth £1.5 million.

The total prize fund for the 2025 tournament, which is scheduled to commence on Monday, June 30, will rise by 7 percent, increasing from £50 million to £53.5 million.

Even players who lose in the first round of the main draw will receive £66,000, which is £6,000 more than in the previous championships.

For comparison, in 2015, the singles champions Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams each earned £1.88 million.

This increase in prize money comes after it was announced last year that ticket prices for the finals at the All England Club would reach record highs this year.

A new pricing structure categorizes seats across the venue into three tiers.

The least expensive tickets, located in the back six rows, will be available for £240.

The six rows situated directly in front of those will cost spectators £295, while the most expensive tier is priced at £315.

A spokesperson for Wimbledon commented that “Very careful consideration is given when setting ticket prices for the Championships, with the greatest price increase applied to premium seats on Centre Court and No 1 Court.”

They also stated that “Twenty per cent of all tickets have had prices frozen at 2024 levels, including grounds passes.”

The spokesperson added, “We were very pleased to receive a record number of applications [for the ballot], including strong interest from fans in the US, Italy, Ireland and Germany.”
