Veteran welterweights Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson, boasting a combined 50 appearances in the Octagon, are set to face off at UFC 318. The UFC recently confirmed this matchup, scheduled for July 19th at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
This will be Magny`s 35th UFC fight. He`s aiming to rebound from consecutive first-round knockout defeats against Michael Morales and Carlos Prates. Earlier in 2024, Magny secured a comeback TKO win over Mike Malott at UFC 297, reflecting a pattern of alternating wins and losses in his recent seven contests.
Nelson is making a quick return to action, competing twice in a calendar year for the first time since 2019. Known as “Gunni,” he recently lost an entertaining decision to Kevin Holland at UFC London in March, which ended his two-fight winning streak. Before facing Holland, Nelson earned a submission victory over Bryan Barberena and a decision win against Takashi Sato.
The UFC 318 event is expected to be headlined by the highly anticipated third clash between Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway for the BMF championship, potentially Poirier`s last professional fight.
