The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 107 proved challenging for several fighters, most notably flyweight contender Maycee Barber, who missed weight for her upcoming bout against Erin Blanchfield.
Barber registered a weight of 126.5 pounds, exceeding the 126-pound limit for a non-title flyweight contest (which includes the one-pound allowance) by half a pound. Her opponent, Erin Blanchfield, successfully weighed in at 125 pounds.
Despite the weight miss, the fight between Barber and Blanchfield is still scheduled to take place at a catchweight. As a penalty for missing weight, Barber is required to forfeit 20 percent of her fight purse.
Although this fight was anticipated as a significant opportunity for both fighters to advance their positions in the title rankings, Barber`s failure to make weight could potentially hinder her path to a championship bout, regardless of the fight`s outcome.
Maycee Barber was not the only fighter on the card to miss weight. Allan Nascimento also came in over the flyweight limit, weighing 127.5 pounds, 1.5 pounds above the permissible weight. Like Barber, his fight against Jafel Filho will proceed at a catchweight, with Nascimento also forfeiting 20 percent of his purse.
In addition to the weight issues, one fight was canceled on Friday morning. The planned 180-pound catchweight bout between Trevin Giles and Andreas Gustafsson was called off due to an injury sustained by Giles. Giles had recently stepped in as a short-notice replacement for Jeremiah Wells.
Further complicating the weigh-in process, a bantamweight fight between Ketlen Vieira and Macy Chiasson was officially changed to a featherweight bout. According to the UFC, this adjustment was necessary due to weight management difficulties experienced by Vieira. As a consequence, Vieira will forfeit 25 percent of her fight purse as a penalty.
On a more straightforward note, the participants in the lightweight co-main event, Mateusz Gamrot (156) and Ludovit Klein (156), both successfully made the required weight.
