The main event planned for UFC Vegas 107 was abruptly cancelled just moments before the fighters were set to walk to the octagon. The reason given was that Maycee Barber experienced a last-minute medical emergency and was subsequently not cleared to compete by medical staff.
This turn of events is particularly challenging for Barber, who has faced significant medical issues previously, keeping her out of competition since March 2024 and sidelined for over a year. This latest emergency further delays her return to the cage, with no immediate timeline provided for when she might be able to fight.
Following the news of the cancellation, Barber`s scheduled opponent, Erin Blanchfield, shared her reaction and what she was told by UFC officials. Blanchfield recounted a conversation with Hunter Campbell, stating, “Hunter came in, he was saying that she was having a seizure and she’s having medical issues and she’s not going to be able to fight.” Blanchfield expressed her disbelief upon receiving the serious news.
Interestingly, prior to fight night, Blanchfield had publicly voiced concerns regarding Barber`s history of health issues and whether she would actually be fit to compete.
After the event was cancelled on Saturday, Blanchfield quickly indicated that she has no interest in rescheduling the fight with Barber in the future. She quoted her coaches advising her, “`don’t entertain her, she’s not on your level,`” and personally described the entire situation as “super unprofessional.”
