Ronaldo Rodriguez, a rising star, encountered a setback at the UFC Mexico weigh-ins.
The popular Mexican fighter exceeded the flyweight limit during Friday`s official weigh-in for UFC Mexico, scheduled for Saturday at Arena CDMX. Rodriguez weighed 127 pounds, which is one pound over the limit (including the one-pound allowance for non-title fights). His opponent, Kevin Borjas, weighed in successfully at 125 pounds for their main card fight.
Their bout will proceed at a catchweight of 127 pounds. As a penalty, Rodriguez will forfeit 20 percent of his purse.
In the main event, Brandon Moreno, a former two-time flyweight champion, and Steve Erceg, a recent title challenger, both successfully made weight, hitting the championship mark of 125 pounds exactly. Moreno is currently ranked No. 4 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, while Erceg is ranked No. 13.
Besides Rodriguez, all other 25 fighters participating on Saturday in Mexico City successfully made weight.
