UFC Des Moines: Rare Double Injury Forces Fight Cancellation

MMA news

A rare situation involving injuries to both scheduled athletes has resulted in one less contest for the upcoming UFC Des Moines event.

Promotion officials confirmed on Tuesday that the planned light heavyweight bout between Junior Tafa and Tuco Tokkos has been removed from Saturday`s UFC Fight Night card, set to take place at Wells Fargo Arena. The reason cited for the cancellation is that both competitors sustained injuries.

Specific details regarding the nature of the injuries were not disclosed. However, the promotion anticipates rescheduling this matchup for a future date once both fighters have recovered and are healthy enough to compete.

In their respective last appearances, Tafa secured a second-round TKO victory over Sean Sharaf in October, which ended a two-fight skid. Tokkos, on the other hand, suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Navajo Stirling at UFC Tampa in December.

As of now, the UFC Des Moines card is expected to proceed with 12 fights remaining, including the five-round bantamweight main event featuring Cory Sandhagen against Deiveson Figueiredo.
