UFC 316 Medical Suspensions: Julianna Peña Out Indefinitely Awaiting Clearance for Potential Elbow, Shoulder Injuries

Following her submission defeat to Kayla Harrison in the co-main event of UFC 316 this past Saturday night, Julianna Peña requires medical clearance for a couple of suspected injuries before she can compete again.

This information comes from the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, which released the list of medical suspensions for the Newark card. Peña`s name tops the list of fighters facing mandatory time off.

Peña`s fight concluded in the second round when Harrison secured a painful kimura on the ground, leading to Peña tapping out. Consequently, the commission has placed Peña under an indefinite suspension. She must receive clearance from an orthopedist regarding both her left elbow and left shoulder before being allowed to fight again.

The loss meant Peña surrendered the women`s bantamweight title and brings her recent record to 3 wins and 3 losses over her last six bouts.

The suspensions list also includes other notable fighters from the card. Kelvin Gastelum, who lost a decision to Joe Pyfer, received a mandatory 30-day suspension with no contact. Additionally, Gastelum is indefinitely suspended pending clearance from a dentist for a loose right maxillary incisor.

Mario Bautista is also mandated to sit out for 30 days with no contact due to facial lacerations sustained in his win over former Bellator champion Patchy Mix, who was making his UFC debut.
