UFC 316: Lightweight bout late addition to Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O’Malley 2 card

MMA news

UFC 316, scheduled for this Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., has added a lightweight matchup to its preliminary portion.

The promotion confirmed Monday that MarQuel Mederos (10-1) is slated to compete against debutant Mark Choinski (8-0) on the undercard of the pay-per-view event.

Mederos is making a quick turnaround after withdrawing from a fight against Bolaji Oki at UFC Vegas 107 just last Saturday due to illness. While the specifics of the illness weren`t disclosed, Mederos is cleared to compete a week later. He seeks to extend his undefeated UFC record to 3-0, following decision wins over Austin Hubbard and Landon Quinones.

Choinski arrives in the UFC with a perfect 8-0 professional record. His most recent outing was under the Anthony Pettis FC banner, where he secured a submission victory over John Ramirez. His signing necessitated his withdrawal from a planned APFC bout scheduled for June 15.

The UFC 316 event is headlined by a bantamweight championship rematch between challenger Merab Dvalishvili and reigning champion Sean O’Malley. The co-main event features two-time women`s bantamweight champion Julianna Peña defending her title against the highly anticipated newcomer Kayla Harrison.
