Trevor Peek Withdraws from UFC Event Following Leg Fracture

MMA news

Trevor Peek will be sidelined from competition for the foreseeable future due to an unfortunate training mishap.

What began as a typical workout session for Peek took a turn for the worse when he suffered an unusual leg injury while training at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. This injury has forced Peek to withdraw from his scheduled featherweight match against Jeong Yeong Lee at UFC Des Moines on May 3rd.

Peek shared details of his injury in a social media post, stating he fractured his leg at the UFC Performance Institute on Friday. He clarified that the fracture is not severe, but further CT scans are needed to assess potential ligament damage.

Describing the incident, Peek explained he was jump roping on soft mats, alternating legs. After about 20 minutes, fatigue and a lapse in concentration led to him landing heavily on his left leg. He recounted hearing a loud popping sound, like a shotgun, at the moment of injury.

This setback prevents Peek from making his first Octagon appearance of 2025, following a winless 2024. He is currently on a two-fight losing streak, having lost to Yanal Ashmouz and Charlie Campbell, bringing his UFC record to 1 win and 3 losses.

Peek admitted that had the injury occurred outside of UFC facilities, he might have attempted to conceal it and still compete. However, because it happened at the UFC Performance Institute, the organization was immediately aware and intervened.

Peek acknowledged the UFC`s decision to remove him from the fight, stating that while he would have tried to compete through the injury, it might be beneficial in the long run given the importance of his next fight. He mentioned that UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby has discussed potentially rescheduling him for the UFC Nashville event on July 12th. The UFC`s plans for Jeong Yeong Lee, whether they will seek a replacement opponent, are currently unknown.
