Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young may not have played against the New York Knicks this postseason, but he still managed to find a way to provoke his familiar rivals.
During Sunday`s Game 7 matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets, Young took to the social media platform X to make a subtle remark aimed at Knicks fans. He commented that the Thunder fans were louder than Knicks fans, a group Young has frequently engaged in banter with.
The rivalry between Young, a former player for the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Knicks dates back to the 2021 postseason.
Atlanta defeated New York in five games in the first round of the Eastern Conference. Young famously took a bow after clinching Game 5 on the road in New York. The teams faced off again the following Christmas, where “anti-Young” chants were heard during a Knicks win, despite the All-Star guard being inactive for the game.
More recently, after the Hawks beat the Knicks in the NBA Emirates Cup quarterfinals, securing advancement to play in Las Vegas, Young again taunted fans by mimicking “rolling the dice” at center court at Madison Square Garden.
New York won the regular season series against Atlanta 3-2 this season. The Hawks and Young missed the playoffs after losing both of their play-in tournament games, while the Knicks have advanced to their first Eastern Conference finals since the 1999-2000 season.
