Tom Aspinall’s Verdict on Jon Jones: “Strange”

MMA news

Tom Aspinall has often spoken about Jon Jones, and it seems he`s now struggling to understand “Bones”.

The top-ranked heavyweight has been eager to fight Jones to unify their heavyweight titles. Aspinall holds the interim title, while Jones is the undisputed UFC champion. Aspinall has shown dominance in the heavyweight division with an 8-1 UFC record and one interim title defense. Jones, a former light heavyweight champion, won the vacant heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane in March 2023 and then knocked out Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.

A fight between these heavyweight stars would logically make sense, but Jones has publicly dismissed a fight with Aspinall, claiming Aspinall doesn`t deserve it.

Aspinall recently expressed “optimism” about the UFC`s plans for him, but whether those plans involve Jones remains uncertain. In a recent word association game with UFC on TNT Sports, Aspinall shared his thoughts on several fighters, saving his most succinct description for Jones.

“Strange guy,” Aspinall said when Jones` picture appeared.

This brief comment is the extent of Aspinall`s trash talk towards Jones, although he has previously made subtle jabs at the light heavyweight GOAT. Aspinall and his fans have often referred to Jones as a “duck” for avoiding the fight. Jones has even embraced this label, changing his Twitter profile picture to a duck with a UFC championship belt.

Regardless of whether Jones` behavior is seen as strange, cowardly, or something else, he ultimately holds the key to making a fight with Aspinall happen.
