Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jake Walman incurred two separate fines from the league for his actions during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The NHL Department of Player Safety issued a $5,000 penalty to Walman for roughing Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. This fine stemmed from Walman being observed delivering multiple punches to Tkachuk during a scrum near the Panthers` net.
Additionally, the Oilers blueliner received another $5,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. This incident involved Walman squirting a water bottle over the glass towards the Panthers bench late in the second period.
Throughout Game 3, Walman accumulated six penalty minutes and finished the contest without registering a point, marking his first game in the series where he did not get on the scoreboard.
Monday`s game featured a high volume of penalties, with a combined 140 penalty minutes assessed to both the Oilers and Panthers. A notable moment was a line brawl that occurred halfway through the second period, resulting in misconduct penalties for half a dozen players, including Sam Bennett, Mattias Ekholm, and Darnell Nurse.
The Panthers leveraged their depth effectively, controlling the game from the opening face-off and ultimately securing a dominant 6-1 victory. Brad Marchand was a key contributor to the Panthers` offense, scoring a goal for the third time in the Stanley Cup Final.
