Shakur Stevenson Remains Composed vs. Zepeda, Berlanga Delivers High Energy Faceoff

MMA news

At the pre-fight press conference in New York, Shakur Stevenson maintained a purely professional attitude during his faceoff with upcoming opponent William Zepeda.

Stevenson is set to defend his WBC lightweight title against Zepeda in the main event on July 12th in New York City.

The undefeated 27-year-old New Jersey native aims for a dominant performance, hoping a victory will lead to more significant future bouts. However, Zepeda, who boasts an impressive 33-0 record and secured the interim WBC lightweight championship by defeating Tevin Farmer last November, is seeking a career-defining win of his own.

In contrast, the co-main event staredown featured a much higher intensity, with Edgar Berlanga, known for his animated style, actively trying to provoke Hamzah Sheeraz as they faced off closely on stage.

Berlanga repeatedly pointed his hand like a gun towards Sheeraz. When this didn`t elicit a strong reaction, he amplified his gestures, mimicking a machine gun attack, reminiscent of a scene from Scarface.

Despite the tension, the faceoff remained non-physical, as security personnel stepped in to separate the fighters before any confrontation could escalate.
