The highly anticipated flyweight fight between Brandon Royval and Manel Kape is officially set.
MMA Fighting confirmed that Royval and Kape will face each other at UFC 317 on June 28 in Las Vegas. This is a significant matchup in the flyweight division.
Originally, Royval and Kape were scheduled to headline UFC Vegas 103 in March, but Royval had to withdraw due to ongoing issues from previous concussions. Kape went on to defeat Asu Almabayev as a replacement opponent. Now, with Royval fully recovered, they are ready to compete at the T-Mobile Arena.
This fight is considered crucial for the flyweight division rankings and could very well decide the next contender for the 125-pound champion Alexandre Pantoja. Royval, currently ranked No. 1, has secured two victories since his loss to champion Pantoja at UFC 296. Kape has also been on a strong run, winning six of his last eight fights, with one of his losses also being against Pantoja.
UFC 317 is the promotion`s annual International Fight Week event. This Royval vs. Kape bout is the first major fight announced for the card, with more announcements expected soon.
