Raducanu’s Miami Open Match Paused as Anisimova Calls for Physio

Sport news

Emma Raducanu`s Miami Open match experienced a pause when Amanda Anisimova, a close friend, requested medical attention from the physio on the court.

Raducanu showcased superior skill against Anisimova, securing a decisive 6-1, 6-3 victory. She conceded only nine points in the first set on the Butch Buchholz court.

Commentator Annabel Croft noted Anisimova`s negative body language after Raducanu took a 5-1 lead in just over 15 minutes.

Croft commented on Anisimova`s demeanor, saying she seemed “all over the place,” “fed up,” “not enjoying this,” and appeared to be “humiliated.”

Anisimova`s request for a physio between sets slightly interrupted Raducanu`s momentum. This evolved into a medical time-out as the physio addressed discomfort in Anisimova`s right arm during their round of 16 encounter.

Anisimova, aged 23, received treatment for her right wrist, an existing issue prior to the match. She had also taken a time-out for blisters in her previous match against Mirra Andreeva.

During the pause, Croft observed Anisimova manipulating her wrist, noting it appeared painful as she stretched “tendons and ligaments.” Croft reiterated her earlier point, stating Anisimova seemed “completely all over the place.”

Croft added that Anisimova seemed lost on how to play against Raducanu in the first set and appeared to lose interest. She described Anisimova as “totally rattled emotionally,” noting her irritation and rushed service games, suggesting a lack of composure.

Despite the medical time-out, Anisimova continued the match. However, Raducanu quickly broke her serve again, moving closer to a dominant victory.

Raducanu`s Miami Open journey began with an easy win against Sakaya Ishii of Japan, followed by an impressive victory over eighth seed Emma Navarro. Her round-of-32 match against McCartney Kessler ended with a walkover due to Kessler`s back injury.

This marked the first time Raducanu has won four consecutive matches at a single event since her 2021 US Open triumph.

Raducanu`s quarter-final opponent in her maiden WTA 1000 quarter-final will be either No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula or Marta Kostyuk.

Raducanu`s live ranking has risen to 48th, though her current performance suggests a level significantly higher.
