Devin Haney`s return to the boxing ring resulted in a win, but the nature of his performance may have negatively impacted his reputation.
In his first fight since the controversial April 2024 bout against Ryan Garcia, Haney earned a unanimous decision victory after what many considered to be twelve uneventful and inactive rounds held in New York`s Times Square. Haney frequently circled his opponent throughout the contest, throwing very few significant punches. His opponent, Jose Ramirez, offered minimal offense in return, allowing Haney to comfortably win on the scorecards with scores of 119-109, 119-109, and 118-110.
This was not the dominant comeback performance many of Haney`s supporters were anticipating. The 26-year-old boxer aimed to bounce back from his initial professional loss against Garcia, a majority decision that was later overturned when Garcia failed a post-fight drug test.
A year after that event, Haney`s display did little to build anticipation for a potential rematch, according to online reactions. Fellow professional fighters were particularly harsh critics of Haney`s performance, with some humorously suggesting they should have been compensated for watching the fight.
