The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is encountering early challenges as its 2025 season begins.
Magomed Umalatov, a leading welterweight contender with a record of 17 wins and 1 loss, has been withdrawn from the PFL 1 event and the season`s 170-pound tournament. This decision follows Umalatov`s failure to make weight on Wednesday, as announced by the league in a press release. Umalatov, who was the runner-up in the 2024 welterweight tournament to Shamil Musaev, was originally scheduled to compete against Logan Storley (16-3) at Thursday`s event in Orlando.
Logan Storley will now face Joseph Luciano (9-2). Luciano was initially set to fight Sarek Shields on the preliminary card. It remains uncertain whether Umalatov will participate in a non-tournament fight this season.
All other participants in the welterweight tournament successfully made weight. This includes former Bellator champions Jason Jackson and Andrey Koreshkov, who are scheduled to fight each other in the first round.
The event will also kick off the featherweight tournament. This tournament marks the return of Movlid Khaybulaev, the undefeated 2021 league champion, who will fight Jeremy Kennedy. Additionally, the 2023 champion Jesus Pinedo is matched against Adam Borics.
