The planned co-main event for UFC Vegas 106 was called off mere minutes before the fighters were scheduled to make their walk to the octagon.
The bout between Paul Craig and Rodolfo Bellato was removed from the fight card after Bellato suffered a medical issue that left him unable to compete. This unfortunate development was announced during the UFC Vegas 106 broadcast on Saturday.
Bellato later revealed the nature of his medical issue on Instagram, stating, “I never thought that herpes would take me out of a fight.” He offered an apology to his fans, calling the situation “something that’s out of our control.”
The promotion intends to reschedule the fight between Craig and Bellato for a future date in the very near future.
This cancellation is undoubtedly tough news for both athletes, particularly considering Bellato`s travel from Brazil and Craig`s journey from his home in Scotland to Las Vegas.
Bellato, who was undefeated in his two UFC appearances at the time, was aiming for his most significant victory yet against Craig. His overall professional record stands at 12-2-1, including a draw against Jimmy Crute at UFC 312 in February.
As for Craig, he was set to return to the light heavyweight division, where he previously competed, after suffering three consecutive losses at middleweight (185 pounds) against opponents including Bo Nickal, Caio Borralho, and Brendan Allen.
An announcement regarding the new date for the Craig vs. Bellato bout is anticipated shortly. In the meantime, lightweights Sodiq Yusuff and Mairon Santos were promoted to fill the co-main event slot for UFC Vegas 106.
