The Columbus Blue Jackets and Zach Werenski Will Discuss Future After Draft

Sources indicate that the Columbus Blue Jackets are scheduled to meet with defenseman Zach Werenski following the NHL Entry Draft to discuss his future with the team. Werenski currently has two years remaining on his contract, and discussions this weekend are expected to provide more clarity on his situation.

Quick Hits: Tuch, Byram, Hellebuyck, Larkin, and Knies Speculation

The Buffalo Sabres and Alex Tuch’s camp are continuing negotiations, but a gap remains. If a contract resolution isn’t reached, Tuch could be a trade candidate, with the Seattle Kraken potentially being an interested party with a significant offer.

The Sabres are also exploring the market for defenseman Bowen Byram, assessing the potential return for the young blueliner.

In Winnipeg, the Jets are reportedly receiving interest for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. The Florida Panthers had inquired before their trade for Brady Tkachuk. While Anton Lundell is not available, Eetu Luostarinen and Evan Rodrigues are considered potential trade pieces.

Dylan Larkin is reportedly looking to join an American team with a legitimate chance to contend for the Stanley Cup. The Philadelphia Flyers are interested in acquiring him, but he has not expressed a preference for them.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are fielding inquiries about Matthew Knies. The Chicago Blackhawks have shown interest and are reportedly willing to include their fourth overall pick in a potential trade package.

Dallas Stars Offer Jason Robertson $12 Million Deal

The Dallas Stars have reportedly extended an eight-year contract offer to Jason Robertson worth $12 million annually, matching Mikko Rantanen’s deal. However, there are reports suggesting Robertson is seeking a salary closer to $14 million, aligning with Leon Draisaitl’s contract, which was negotiated by Robertson’s new agent, Andy Scott.

Should Robertson receive an offer sheet exceeding $11,939,167 and the Stars choose not to match it, the team making the offer would forfeit four first-round draft picks. Only the Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Colorado Avalanche would be unable to absorb such a penalty.

If a contract agreement cannot be reached between the Stars and Robertson, General Manager Jim Nill is expected to prioritize finding a trade partner for the forward.
