According to the latest edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast with Elliotte Friedman, there have been significant updates on the general manager searches for the Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and New Jersey Devils.
Nashville Predators GM Search
The Predators are reportedly leaning towards hiring an external candidate for their general manager position. While Jeff Kealty, one of their current assistant GMs, is believed to have had an in-person interview and performed well, the organization seems set on looking outside. Tom Fitzgerald, who has a past connection with the Predators as their former captain, has been added to the list of contenders. Despite his historical ties, his lengthy absence from the team makes him an external candidate. Friedman also suggests that Nashville might consider Kevyn Adams or Brad Treliving, especially given their recent experience in similar roles. He also noted that Bill Scott’s interview went very well. Jamie Langenbrunner’s potential interview was reportedly incorrect, and while Scott White has spoken with the team, it’s uncertain if it was an in-person meeting, given his Dallas location.
Toronto Maple Leafs Front Office
The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to conduct a series of interviews this week. The initial focus is on finding one individual, but the final structure of their front office remains unclear. It’s possible that more than one candidate interviewed could end up with a role. The team is reportedly seeking permission to speak with more individuals from the Florida Panthers, with Gregory Campbell being a potential candidate. Sunny Mehta has also been mentioned in discussions.
New Jersey Devils GM Search
The New Jersey Devils are set to begin their general manager search this week, and they will be conducting it internally, without the use of a search firm. Key individuals expected to be interviewed include Sunny Mehta and John Chayka. Jamie Langenbrunner is also a name to watch, though confirmation is pending. The Devils are actively starting their process to fill the GM role.
