NHL Rumors: Flyers’ Zegras Extension Talks & Stars’ Offseason Decisions

Philadelphia Flyers: Key Offseason Priorities

Negotiations for a contract extension with restricted free agent (RFA) forward Trevor Zegras are anticipated to commence soon for the Philadelphia Flyers. Insider Elliotte Friedman expects these discussions to gain momentum in the immediate future. Additionally, the Flyers aim to re-sign RFA defenseman Jamie Drysdale.

The Flyers’ offseason priorities also include addressing their power play, which ranked last in the league with a 15.7% success rate. With projected cap space of $39.5 million, General Manager Daniel Briere has flexibility. While Samuel Ersson, an RFA backup goaltender, is also a priority, Zegras and Drysdale are considered more pressing.

Dallas Stars: Offseason Uncertainty for Myers and Bunting

The Dallas Stars’ trade deadline acquisitions, defenseman Tyler Myers and forward Michael Bunting, did not meet expectations. Both players were scratched at times during the first-round playoff series and made notable errors, despite both recovering from groin injuries. The team incurred the cost of a second and fourth-round pick for Myers (with salary retained) and a third-round pick for Bunting.

Tyler Myers has one year remaining on his contract with a $1.5 million cap hit. General Manager Jim Nill may explore trading him, though Myers has a 12-team no-trade list. Michael Bunting is an unrestricted free agent (UFA), and it appears unlikely the Stars will have the cap space to re-sign him, even if desired. Bunting is coming off a $4.5 million contract.

Bunting expressed his enjoyment of his time in Dallas and the team’s bright future, but acknowledged the uncertainty of his contract expiring.
