NHL Playoffs 2025: Stanley Cup Final Schedule, Bracket, Scores

The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers are set to clash again in the Stanley Cup Final. Edmonton secured their spot by defeating the Dallas Stars 6-3 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final on Thursday night.

Despite facing elimination, Dallas seemed less urgent than Edmonton, who showed desperation from the start. Corey Perry opened the scoring early with a power play goal just over two minutes in. Mattias Janmark quickly followed up, scoring on a breakaway after a defensive mistake by the Stars.

Edmonton`s second goal on their second shot prompted Dallas coach Pete DeBoer to replace goaltender Jake Oettinger. Casey Smith entered the game but soon allowed Jeff Skinner`s first career playoff goal, extending Edmonton`s first-period lead to 3-0.

Dallas narrowed the gap to 3-2, but Connor McDavid then delivered a highlight-reel play. After a blocked shot exited the zone, McDavid sprinted to beat Roope Hintz to the puck and scored on a breakaway against DeSmith.

McDavid finished the game with a goal and an assist, showcasing his top form in the series-clinching win. Teammate Leon Draisaitl contributed with two assists.

Perry`s early goal was his seventh this postseason, setting a record for players over 39. His net-front presence has provided important secondary scoring for the Oilers.

Advancing to the Stanley Cup Final means the Oilers face a familiar opponent. The Panthers, who easily defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, are aiming for a second consecutive championship. Can Edmonton, after their dramatic comeback attempt in the 2024 series, complete the task this year?
