NHL Playoffs 2025: Hurricanes Advance, Jets Force Game 6

The first team has secured its spot in the Eastern Conference Final. The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Washington Capitals 3-1 on Thursday night to win the series 4-1. Andrei Svechnikov scored with 1:59 left to break the 1-1 tie, and an empty-net goal sealed the victory. Carolina`s Frederik Andersen made 18 saves. The Hurricanes will now face the winner of the series between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the Western Conference, the Winnipeg Jets stayed alive in their series against the Dallas Stars with a dominant 4-0 win in Game 5. Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 22 shots for his second shutout of the series, mirroring the 4-0 score from Game 2. Vladislav Namestnikov scored the only goal the Jets needed, followed by two goals from Nikolaj Ehlers. Mark Scheifele capped it off with a shorthanded empty-netter.

However, the game might have further negative implications for Dallas. Stars captain Jamie Benn struck Scheifele during a confrontation, potentially leading to a suspension for Saturday`s Game 6.
