Are the Nashville Predators Getting Closer to a New General Manager?
Elliotte Friedman recently provided an update on the Nashville Predators’ ongoing General Manager search during a segment of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, following discussions at the GMs Meetings.
Kyle Bukauskas inquired about the escalating GM search in Nashville, mentioning candidates like former GM Marc Bergevin and Florida assistant GM Brett Peterson. He sought insight into the Predators’ timeline and approach to finding Barry Trotz’s successor.
Friedman indicated that sources suggest Nashville is poised to significantly reduce its pool of GM candidates, aiming to get serious about the selection process within the next one to two weeks. He noted the challenge of identifying the exact shortlist, given the extensive discussions the team has held. The Predators have engaged with a diverse group, including former general managers, promising young executives, and high-profile figures such as Brendan Shanahan.
Friedman clarified that not all interactions were formal interviews; some were more informal “get-to-know-you” conversations, with certain individuals participating in multiple Zoom calls. While the precise profile of the ideal candidate remains unclear, Nashville has contacted a substantial number of prospects and is now preparing to make deeper cuts to the list.
Since Barry Trotz’s departure as Nashville Predators GM, specific details about potential candidates have been limited. However, Florida Panthers Assistant General Manager Brett Peterson, recently named GM for Team USA at the World Championships, is known to be among those contacted.
The Predators are also exploring candidates in similar assistant GM roles, potentially considering an internal promotion, akin to what was seen with the New York Islanders. Another possibility being weighed is appointing both a President of Hockey Operations and a General Manager, though this structure has not been finalized. Brendan Shanahan and other similar profiles have been interviewed as part of this comprehensive search.
All attention is now focused on Nashville’s next move in filling this crucial leadership position.
