Former UFC flyweight contender Molly McCann is officially transitioning to the world of professional boxing. Matchroom Boxing announced on Thursday that they have signed the fighter known as “Meatball.” Details regarding her first opponent and debut date are yet to be determined.
Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn expressed his enthusiasm for the signing. “She’s officially signed with Matchroom Boxing,” Hearn stated. “Molly McCann will compete now as a boxer, about time I’d like to say as well. Former [Amateur Boxing Association] champion. Everyone knows the ability as a boxer, obviously been a massive star within the UFC. Built a profile globally as well and we’re delighted to start the journey with her.”
The 35-year-old McCann announced her retirement from mixed martial arts competition in March following a first-round submission loss. Prior to her UFC tenure, she captured the inaugural Cage Warriors 125-pound title in 2018, establishing herself as a prominent fighter.
During her time in the UFC octagon, McCann had a memorable but ultimately mixed career. She delivered several spectacular knockout finishes and became a significant star, especially in her native England. After a strong 6-2 run between 2019 and 2022 that put her on the verge of title contention, her UFC journey concluded with a challenging 1-4 run, including three first-round submission defeats, which signaled the end of her MMA path.
