MMA News Roundup: Amanda Nunes Announces Comeback

MMA news

“The Lioness” is back.

UFC 314 was full of events, including Alexander Volkanovski`s another victory, but the announcement of Amanda Nunes` return after her retirement in 2023 was somewhat lost in the shuffle.

Perhaps the return of the former two-division champion wasn`t a big surprise, as her previous retirement seemed more due to boredom than inability to continue at the highest level. Nunes, 36, has achieved everything in MMA and has many personal responsibilities as a mother of two. So for her, it was always a matter of timing.

The time is right, considering Julianna Peña will defend her bantamweight title against Kayla Harrison at UFC 316 on June 7. No matter the outcome, Nunes should be motivated. Peña sensationally defeated Nunes at UFC 269 and, despite losing the rematch, always wanted a trilogy with Nunes.

As for Harrison, the two-time PFL champion and former training partner of Nunes, she has long been considered the most intriguing test for the recently announced Hall of Fame inductee. If she beats Peña, calls for a Nunes-Harrison fight will be very loud.

Tyron Woodley mentioning his 2018 rap song led to mean, but honestly, very funny comments.
