Michael Page wants Kamaru Usman, or punch Colby Covington ‘in his face’, for next UFC fight

MMA news

Michael Page is aiming to fight against two of the top welterweight fighters in recent years.

Following his successful debut in the middleweight division at UFC Saudi Arabia, where he defeated Shara Magomedov, handing him his first defeat with a dominant unanimous decision victory, “MVP” has stated his desire to return to welterweight. Despite some believing he could succeed at 185 pounds, the former Bellator star has consistently expressed his wish to compete again at welterweight.

Usman and Covington are the opponents Page is hoping to face.

“I’m not sure if my last fight made some people nervous, but it seems like everyone has gone quiet,” Page commented at a UFC London Fan Q&A. “There are many potential opponents: I believe a fight with Usman would be great. And for some reason, I really want to punch Colby in the face, I can`t explain why. There are fighters out there, and I’m just waiting for their response to my challenge.”

Since joining the UFC, Page has a record of 2-1, including a victory over Kevin Holland at UFC 299 in April. However, he experienced a loss in a very close fight against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 303 two months later.

If Page were to fight Covington, he would aim for a spectacular finish, similar to his knockout victory over Evangelista Santos at Bellator 158 in July 2016, which was Santos`s final fight.

“I’m hoping to land another jumping knee to the face,” Page explained. “You all saw how effective it was, so I’m hoping for a similar outcome…

“[I’m hoping for] two more significant fights this year. If I get to punch Colby in the face, and then face another opponent ranked in the top-10, or top-five, that would be a great year.”
