Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova, 37, entertained the audience at a USTA event in Carlsbad, California, with her witty response to an unexpected phone call.

During a Q&A session in front of a large crowd of 1,200 people, an audience member`s phone started ringing, interrupting the conversation.
To everyone`s amusement, Sharapova decided to answer the call, which turned out to be from the questioner`s wife, Kelly.
Sharapova jokingly said into the phone: “Kelly, this is Maria Sharapova, and we are speaking in front of 1,200 people. Just wanted to say hello.”
Kelly played along, responding with a cheerful “But… hello!”.
Sharapova continued, adding to the humor: “Your husband mentioned you were calling, so we had to answer. And he wants you to know he loves you!”
The crowd, along with Sharapova, erupted in laughter as Kelly replied with an “Alrighty!”.
After the funny exchange, Sharapova handed the phone back, jokingly saying, “I`ll let you finish this conversation in private.”
Another audience member captured the funny moment on video and shared it on Instagram, captioning it: “In case you didn`t know, Maria Sharapova is so funny. She just chatted live with someone`s wife who called while he was asking her a question. Such a fun moment!”
Maria Sharapova officially retired from tennis in January 2020. Throughout her successful career, she won five Grand Slam titles and held the world No. 1 ranking for a total of 21 weeks.
