Manuel Torres achieved the most significant victory of his career by delivering an incredible knockout to Drew Dober in the co-main event at UFC Mexico.
The finish was perfectly executed. Torres utilized his reach advantage from the start, setting up his straight punches, which ultimately led to Dober`s downfall. With his height and reach, Torres landed a powerful left hand followed by a straight right, stunning Dober and sending him to the mat.
Torres then unleashed a rapid series of hammer fists to Dober`s head, causing the referee Mike Beltran to stop the fight at 1:45 of the first round.
Immediately after the fight concluded, Dober surprisingly got back to his feet and attempted to continue, demonstrating that he was indeed knocked out and unaware of the situation. This victory marks an impressive performance for Torres, bringing his UFC record to 4-1.
“This is all for you!” Torres exclaimed to the cheering crowd. “I couldn’t have done it without your support. It was a quick finish. Dana [White], you know what’s up!”
At the beginning of the fight, Dober appeared to adopt a more patient approach than his usual aggressive style, trying to close the distance against Torres` long-range punches. However, this strategy backfired as Torres quickly connected with a long punch during their first exchange.
Dober continued to press forward, aiming to negate Torres` reach advantage, but Torres maintained pinpoint accuracy and devastating power in his strikes. It was then that Torres unleashed the left-right combination that dropped Dober, preventing him from recovering until after the fight was stopped.
Upon falling, Dober instinctively tried to grab for an ankle lock, but Torres remained relentless with his hammer fists until the referee intervened.
This win puts Torres back on a winning path after his loss to Ignacio Bahamondes in his previous fight, solidifying his position as a dangerous contender in the UFC lightweight division for anyone willing to face him.
