Malcolm Wellmaker`s powerful right hand has once again delivered a significant outcome, first earning him a UFC contract and now securing his debut victory inside the octagon.
The 30-year-old bantamweight competitor made a spectacular entrance into the UFC at Saturday`s event in Kansas City. He needed less than two minutes to connect with a devastating right hook that sent his opponent, Cameron Saaiman, to the canvas.
Wellmaker wasted no time, initiating pressure from the opening bell and expertly cutting off the cage as he pursued Saaiman. When Saaiman attempted to create distance by punching, Wellmaker demonstrated slick defense, slipping the incoming shot and countering immediately. His punch landed squarely on Saaiman`s chin, leading to the fight-ending knockdown.
This impressive finish was remarkably similar to the performance that earned Wellmaker his contract on Dana White`s Contender Series. Back in August, “The Machine” needed just over two minutes to finish Adam Bramhald with a right hook and secure his spot in the UFC. Wellmaker maintains his perfect professional record, now standing at 9-0.
Conversely, Cameron Saaiman is facing a challenging period in his career. After a strong 3-0 start in the UFC, he has now suffered his third consecutive loss.
