Main Event Shift: Gilbert Burns vs. Michael Morales

MMA news

A highly anticipated welterweight clash featuring Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales has been moved. Originally slated for UFC 315 on May 10th, this fight will now headline UFC Vegas 106 on May 17th at the APEX facility.

The change was announced during the UFC 314 broadcast.

Gilbert Burns, currently ranked No. 7 in the welterweight division, will face the undefeated Michael Morales, who is on the verge of breaking into the top 15 rankings.

The reasons for rescheduling the bout to May 17th and moving it from the UFC 315 event in Montreal to a Fight Night event in Las Vegas are currently unknown.

Burns (22-8 record) is aiming to break a three-fight losing streak. His recent losses were against current champion Belal Muhammad, as well as top welterweight contenders Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady. Prior to this, Burns had won three out of seven fights since his title challenge against Kamaru Usman in 2021, holding a UFC record of 15-8.

Morales (17-0 record) from Ecuador is entering the most significant fight of his career. He boasts a five-fight winning streak in the UFC, earned after a successful appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. His streak includes a first-round finish against Neil Magny in August, which earned him a bonus.

UFC 315 will be headlined by a welterweight championship fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena. The co-main event will feature Valentina Shevchenko defending her flyweight title against Manon Fiorot.
