Luana Santos Makes History with UFC’s First Women’s Americana Submission

MMA news

Luana Santos etched her name into the UFC record books with a historic finish at UFC Vegas 106.

Facing Tainara Lisboa in a preliminary women’s bantamweight bout at the UFC APEX, Santos secured a rare Americana submission with just one second remaining in the second round. This forced Lisboa to tap out and marked the first time this particular submission hold has been successfully applied in UFC women`s division history.

This victory was Santos`s first fight since suffering a decision loss to Casey O’Neill at UFC 305 in August. Prior to that, the 25-year-old fighter had an impressive run, winning her first three octagon appearances, including stoppage wins over Mariya Agapova and Juliana Miller. Her recent record now stands at 6 wins in her last 7 fights.

Tainara Lisboa entered the bout undefeated in her UFC career. However, the loss to Santos was her first promotional defeat and ended her overall five-fight winning streak.
