Lehecka Dominates Fils to Reach First Masters Final, Two Years After Tearful Madrid Retirement

Sport news

In a commanding performance at the Miami Open semi-finals on Friday, Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka, seeded 21st, decisively defeated France’s Arthur Fils, seeded 28th, with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory. This triumph marks a significant milestone for Lehecka, as he advances to his inaugural Masters 1000 final.

The achievement carries particular emotional weight for Lehecka, coming exactly two years after his first Masters semi-final appearance in Madrid ended abruptly and tearfully due to an injury retirement. This time, however, there were only celebrations following a seemingly flawless match. Lehecka demonstrated his superior form by breaking Fils’ serve on multiple occasions throughout the match, specifically in the first, fourth, sixth, and eighth games, leaving his opponent struggling to find a foothold.
