Speaking to reporters at the 2025 Fanatics Fest event held in New York City, Gaethje discussed the current state of the 155-pound division and his plans for the future within mixed martial arts. He announced that he intends to be present cageside this Saturday in Las Vegas for UFC 317, specifically to witness the lightweight championship contest between Charles Oliveira and Ilia Topuria. Gaethje explicitly stated his demand for a shot at the title against the victor of that upcoming fight.
