‘Just go away forever’: Fans React to Conor McGregor’s Stadium Return Talk and Michael Chandler Matchup

MMA news

Despite seemingly negative fan sentiment, Conor McGregor maintains that his career in fighting is not yet over.

This perspective arises from reactions to McGregor`s latest assertions that he will only step back into the octagon if it`s for a stadium event, and that he still has “unfinished business” to settle with his long-standing potential opponent, Michael Chandler.

Following a clip from WWE`s recent WrestleMania event held at the 65,000-seat Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, McGregor tweeted, “I’ll only come back to a stadium.” He later reignited discussion around a possible fight with Chandler. The two have been linked to a matchup for years, with Chandler frequently calling McGregor out, coaching opposite him on *The Ultimate Fighter 31*, and a scheduled fight between them at UFC 303 this past June was ultimately canceled due to an injury suffered by McGregor.

McGregor has not competed since breaking his leg during his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His intended return has faced numerous delays complicated by his recovery from the injury, various business and entertainment ventures, political ambitions in his native Ireland, and a series of legal challenges, including being found liable for sexual assault in November stemming from an incident in Dublin in 2018.

Given these factors, it`s understandable that many fans are not particularly enthusiastic about the potential return of the former two-division UFC champion, should it ever actually occur.
