Jon Jones, widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts history, acknowledges that even he would require significant assistance if faced with the challenge of taking on a silverback gorilla.
A recent peculiar online discussion, sparked by a viral social media post questioning if 100 humans could overpower a single gorilla, has garnered responses from a diverse group including celebrities, online personalities, scientists, and athletes. UFC Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili even claimed he could accomplish the feat by himself.
Despite holding the title of UFC`s current heavyweight champion, Jones admits his own limitations in such a scenario.
“One hundred men definitely beats up a gorilla,” Jones told TMZ. “When you think about the intelligence of the human being, we’ve conquered the planet. So the animals shouldn’t be a problem to us.
“Definitely not solo. I would need a lot of help but you get a bunch of guys from the NFL roster, a bunch of heavier guys from the UFC roster and we’d have that thing down in no time. Let me lead the pack. I’d like to be part of the first wave if we did that.”
Amusingly, the most frequently suggested winning strategy for the human collective involves the initial few individuals almost certainly being severely injured before the sheer force of numbers eventually overwhelms the primate.
This potentially grim outcome for the front line does not seem to deter Jones, who volunteered to lead the initial assault.
Nonetheless, Jones couldn`t help but find the subject comical, particularly recognizing that gorillas aren`t actively seeking confrontations with humans.
“I’d love to be one of the 100. I think it’s such a funny topic,” Jones said. “Everyone’s so serious about fighting this damn gorilla. What did the gorilla do to us? What did he do? It’s a funny debate.”
