Jon Jones` fighting future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: his confidence is as high as ever.
The reigning UFC heavyweight champion has been leaving clues about his plans on social media while traveling globally, recently suggesting the UFC is already aware of his career intentions. Jones, 37, has not competed since successfully defending his title against Stipe Miocic last November and has only fought twice since 2020.
The biggest question facing the future UFC Hall of Famer is whether a fight against Tom Aspinall, the current interim heavyweight champion, will ever materialize. Aspinall, 32, has repeatedly called for a title unification bout, a challenge Jones has rarely seemed eager to accept.
In his latest social media jab, “Bones” shared a video on Instagram Stories depicting a calm dog easily controlling a much more boisterous one during play. He added the caption, “What I feel like returning to the UFC after some much-needed downtime.”
This post and comment are widely seen as a direct taunt towards Aspinall, whom Jones has previously stated lacks the necessary credentials to face him. Aspinall holds an 8-1 record in the UFC and recently avenged his single loss to Curtis Blaydes with a dominant performance at UFC 304. This victory also marked Aspinall`s first successful defense of his interim belt, putting him on par with Jones in terms of successful heavyweight title defenses.
Before ascending to heavyweight, Jones dominated the light heavyweight division for over a decade, cementing his legacy as one of the sport`s all-time greats. He captured the vacant heavyweight title, left open by Francis Ngannou`s departure, at UFC 285 with a decisive submission win over Ciryl Gane.
Recently, Aspinall commented on a podcast that he is “fed up” with pursuing a fight with Jones and is prepared to seek other matchups.
