Jon Jones appears to be considering a return to fighting, possibly motivated by a significant upcoming opportunity.
This follows President Donald Trump`s recent announcement of plans to potentially host a UFC event at The White House in 2026, intended to mark Independence Day. The news quickly drew reactions from several fighters, including Conor McGregor, who expressed interest in competing on such a unique card.
Now, Jones, aged 37, who had previously announced his retirement in June, is hinting at a potential comeback. He took to social media, posting the question, “Fighting at The White House?” accompanied by an eyes emoji.
Adding further intrigue, Jones subsequently wrote that he “Just re-entered the testing pool, that lasted for about two weeks. Figured we’d keep everyone’s options open.”
Jones had declared his retirement on June 21, concluding a period of limited activity during which he added the UFC heavyweight title to his accomplishments but competed only twice since 2020. During this time, he faced considerable criticism for not facing interim champion Tom Aspinall, who was actively seeking a title unification bout. Upon Jones`s retirement, Aspinall was officially recognized as the undisputed champion.
President Trump would likely be very interested in having Jones participate in this potential event. The president was present at Jones`s most recent fight, UFC 309 in New York, where Jones successfully defended his championship against Stipe Miocic. Following his victory, Jones notably imitated one of Trump’s signature gestures and personally greeted the president cageside.
