Joe Pyfer Withdraws from UFC Mexico Fight Due to Illness

MMA news

Joe Pyfer has been forced to withdraw from UFC Mexico at the last minute.

UFC officials announced on Saturday that Pyfer was removed from his main card fight with Kelvin Gastelum due to illness. Consequently, the flyweight match between Edgar Chairez and CJ Vergara has been moved from the preliminary card to the main card.

Both Pyfer and Gastelum were set to compete for the first time in 2025 after recovering from losses in their previous fights in June. At UFC 303, Pyfer achieved a first-round knockout victory against Marc-Andre Barriault, while Gastelum won a decision against Daniel Rodriguez at a Fight Night event in Saudi Arabia.

It is currently unknown if the fight will be rescheduled for a later event or if Pyfer and Gastelum will be given different opponents.

UFC Mexico is still headlined by a flyweight contenders` fight between two-time champion Brandon Moreno and recent title challenger Steve Erceg. The event will proceed with 12 fights.
