Jake Paul, Matchroom Boxing Reach Settlement, Request Dismissal

Jake Paul and Matchroom Boxing have resolved their legal differences, leading to a joint request for dismissal of their lawsuits in a New York federal court.

Legal representatives for all involved parties filed paperwork with the United States District Court, Southern District of New York on Monday, formally requesting the dismissal. This action follows a prior notification that a settlement agreement had been successfully reached.

According to the official court filing from Monday:

“It is hereby stipulated and agreed, by the undersigned counsel of record for the parties herein, pursuant to Rule 41(a)(1)(ii) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, that the above-captioned action is dismissed with prejudice and without costs or fees to either party.”

Earlier, on March 18, attorneys representing Paul and Matchroom Boxing, headed by Eddie Hearn, alongside judge Glenn Feldman, had informed the court of the settlement agreement and their collective intention to seek dismissal.

“Plaintiffs Matchroom Boxing Limited (“Matchroom”) and Edward John Hearn (“Hearn”), Plaintiff-Intervenor Glenn Feldman (“Feldman”) (collectively the “Plaintiffs”), and Defendant Jake Paul (“Paul”) (collectively referred to herein as the “Parties”) jointly submit this letter to notify the Court that the Parties have entered into a Settlement Agreement. Pursuant to the terms thereof, the Parties expect to file a Stipulation of Dismissal on or before March 31, 2025.”

The lawsuits originated from comments and accusations made by Jake Paul regarding the controversial outcome of the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano fight in 2022, as well as a separate match involving Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.

Matchroom Boxing`s initial lawsuit claimed that Paul had made defamatory statements alleging Matchroom Boxing “bribed” boxing judge Glenn Feldman “to manipulate the results of two boxing matches he officiated.”

In an interview, Paul stated that “clearly [Glenn Feldman] is being financially compensated by Matchroom Boxing.” This statement followed Feldman`s scoring decisions in favor of Taylor and Joshua, both of whom are promoted by Hearn`s company. Paul described his statement as “an accusation that [he doesn’t] take lightly,” yet added that “it’s just so blatantly obvious and they’re not even attempting to conceal it.”

Subsequently, Matchroom Boxing initiated a defamation lawsuit against Paul, and Feldman joined the lawsuit as a co-plaintiff in October 2022.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Paul`s Most Valuable Promotions and Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing collaborated to promote the rematch between Taylor and Serrano in November of the previous year. A third match between Taylor and Serrano is already scheduled for July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

A settlement conference had been initially scheduled for December after Judge Paul Gardephe of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York rejected Paul`s request to dismiss the lawsuit in September. This rejection led to a pre-trial conference being set a few weeks later.

The specific terms of the settlement agreement have not been made public. However, with the joint request for dismissal, it appears that all parties are satisfied with the resolution.
