Ian Machado Garry Responds to Jack Della Maddalena Remarks

MMA news

Ian Machado Garry is ready and willing to resolve his issues with Jack Della Maddalena.

Following Jack Della Maddalena`s unanimous decision victory over Belal Muhammad for the welterweight title at UFC 315, where Garry served as the backup fighter, comments from Della Maddalena`s coach prompted a sharp retort from `The Future`. The coach criticized Garry`s finishing ability, leading Garry to address the remarks during an interview on Monday.

Responding directly to the coach`s criticism, Garry pointed out Della Maddalena`s own finishing record, stating, “In his last four fights, Jack has had one finish.” He added a dismissive comment about Della Maddalena`s recent win and threatened, “I’ll bend his nose backward the way it should be.”

Garry warned Della Maddalena`s coach to stay out of their beef and clarified the incident involving his son giving M&M`s, describing it as a “playful, harmless joke” regarding weight cutting, meant as “a bit of banter.” Garry emphasized his seriousness, stating he is “flying around the world ready to fight” and prepared to “take the belt from his hands” if Della Maddalena is the champion.

Garry elaborated on the M&M exchange, explaining the humor centered on tempting Della Maddalena to miss weight so Garry could step in and win the title. This joke, however, elicited an unusually harsh response from Della Maddalena, who questioned if Garry`s son was actually his. Garry sees this personal attack as grounds for a future confrontation.

Calling the M&M joke “low-level” banter, Garry characterized Della Maddalena`s reaction as “immature” and indicative of sensitivity. He suggested that his actions on fight week clearly irritated Della Maddalena, revealing him as “mentally weak.” Garry asserted he can get inside Della Maddalena`s head but vowed never to “stoop so low as to mention his child and his children and his wife,” preferring to settle things physically in the octagon.

Despite the heated exchange, a fight between Garry and Della Maddalena isn`t imminent. Della Maddalena is expected to face lightweight champion Islam Makhachev next, likely around October. Given the crowded welterweight division, Garry plans to remain active, fighting other contenders to earn his title shot.

Garry reiterated his commitment to staying active, stating, “I’m a fighter, I want to be active. I want to beat everybody up. I want to prove that I’m the best… that belt will come in time.”
