The timing of Jon Jones` return to the octagon remains uncertain.
The reigning UFC heavyweight champion last fought in November, securing a dominant stoppage victory against Stipe Miocic in his initial title defense at UFC 309. Since that time, fans have eagerly awaited a title unification bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall. Despite UFC CEO Dana White repeatedly promising and seemingly guaranteeing this matchup, Jones has largely kept quiet regarding the potential fight.
On Monday, “Bones” took to Twitter to address fans` questions about his fighting future, among other topics, while visiting Thailand.
Responding to a fan query about potentially being stripped of his title, Jones commented, “Stripped? Lol, do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that?”
Jones further indicated that he had already informed the UFC of his intentions for his next steps, adding that these plans have not yet been communicated to the public.
Jones stated, “Y’all barking up the wrong tree. I told the UFC my plans a long time ago. I have no clue why they haven’t shared them with you guys yet.”
Jones made his return after a multi-year hiatus, having previously vacated the light heavyweight title. He successfully captured his second divisional championship at UFC 285. Following Francis Ngannou`s departure from the UFC, Jones secured the heavyweight title by submitting Ciryl Gane in the first round of their March 2023 fight. Jones has only fought once since winning the heavyweight belt, leaving uncertainty about whether he will face Aspinall next and the overall trajectory of the UFC`s heavyweight division in 2025 and beyond.
