Within the perennial debate over the finest Souls game, Dark Souls 2 often claims the top spot in my personal ranking. While this opinion is admittedly controversial, my affection for it, despite its imperfections, remains strong. Its audacious ambition, even with many fascinating concepts like light manipulation and time-travel being abandoned during a turbulent development cycle, is something I deeply admire. The game’s innovative mechanics, such as the Bonfire Ascetic system or certain hidden strategies to simplify boss encounters, are particularly appealing. Above all, the profoundly melancholic atmosphere of Dark Souls 2 resonates deeply.
Nevertheless, it is Dark Souls 3, released in 2016, that I find myself revisiting most frequently. As it commemorates its 10th anniversary today, marking another year of our collective descent into time, it feels fitting to extend a heartfelt celebration to this remarkable title.
