UFC bantamweight Cory Sandhagen continues to demonstrate his unique sense of humor, this time taking aim at critics of his title aspirations.
After a commanding performance culminating in a finish during the main event of UFC Des Moines last Saturday against Deiveson Figueiredo, Sandhagen made his case for a title shot in his next fight. He even volunteered to step in as a backup should the championship rematch between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley materialize at UFC 316.
This victory marked a return to the win column for Sandhagen, who previously lost to Umar Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC Abu Dhabi last August. When the discussion turns to the exciting bantamweight`s potential title challenge, many fans frequently reference that specific loss as their primary argument against his claim. Sandhagen recently addressed this point humorously in an Instagram video he posted, where he plays both himself and a fictional fan debating the matter.
He captioned the video, stating, “This is some of y’all right now and it doesn’t even bother you.”
Sandhagen currently holds a solid 4-1 record in his last five bouts, which includes main event victories over notable opponents like Rob Font, Marlon Vera, and Song Yadong. At 33 years old, he is in a strong position following his significant win and also represents a fresh, intriguing stylistic matchup for both current champion Dvalishvili and former champion O`Malley.
