Francis Ngannou has released a statement regarding his involvement in a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred in his native Cameroon. The incident tragically resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl, who passed away from the injuries she sustained.
Reports indicate the collision took place in the Omnisports district of Yaounde, Cameroon, during Easter weekend. Ngannou was reportedly riding a motorcycle that collided with the young woman. While exact details of the crash have not yet been disclosed, the victim suffered injuries to her arm and leg. Ngannou is reported to have quickly transported her to a local medical facility for treatment.
Sadly, despite medical efforts, the young woman could not be saved and died at Yaounde General Hospital.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Ngannou shared his reaction and support: “From the very beginning, I have been by the family’s side, offering support, comfort, and deepest condolences during this time,” he stated. He further added, “I’ve met with them privately to share in their grief, and I will continue to stand with them every step of the way.”
Ngannou emphasized the depth of his empathy, saying, “I carry their pain with me, and my unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss.”
Local authorities in Cameroon are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
In addition to this tragedy, Ngannou, aged 38, has faced other recent challenges. He last competed in mixed martial arts in October, making his PFL debut with a dominant first-round finish against Renan Ferreira, which marked his first MMA bout in over two years.
Prior to his return to MMA, Ngannou ventured into boxing, participating in high-profile matches against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua after leaving the UFC as a free agent.
The former heavyweight champion also recently endured a profound personal loss, revealing in April 2024 that his 15-month-old son, Kobe, had suddenly passed away.
